Group Week Briefly

So, we missed the first night of Hell Week in Hollywood, including the debut of America's Favorite Lesbian, Ellen DeGeneres.  Why?  We have DVR, and we have only one recorder, so it only recorded LOST, and not the first night of Hollywood.

But, the show goes on.

THIS

IS AMERICAN

IDOL

During the first show, 85 contestants got the boot... and 96 remain for what is a gem of a show--Group Night.  People get to wander around and form groups, pick songs, and choreograph choreography.  Looks like up to five people can be a part of the group this year--I thought I remembered that only three could do it last year.  One of the girls in the five member group Phoenix was in the group with The Widower Danny Gokey last season.

This show is awesome, because for every three or four contestants making up a group that shines brightly, there are four more groups who fall apart dramatically, and turn on each other.

And, like usual, there is a whole lot of names tossed out there that none of us have ever heard.

Don't really know what to tell you on this... group week is kinda hard to define and interestingly discuss.

I will give you this, though, from EW's Mikey Slezak, on the topic of Gwen Stefani's "The Sweet Escape"...

What in the name of all that's holy would possess any contestant to choose this rapid-fire song to advance his or her Idol cause? I almost wonder if next year, Ken Warwick should add a booby-trapped song to the ''approved'' list — say, ''I've Got a Brand New Pair of Roller Skates'' or maybe ''My Humps'' — and automatically DQ any singer who picks it.
